💡Time Saving Tips for Teachers

This web page is full of time saving tips for teachers. How can we use technology to help us save time in our craft? This page has tips, resources, and suggestions of ways you can use technology to save you time as a teacher.

There are a lot of things we do as teachers. Finding areas where you can use strategies to reduce the time it takes to complete certain tasks is working smarter, not harder. Here are a few things you can begin to automate tasks and save yourself some time.

• 💡Schedule Emails: You have emails to send, but you don't always want to send them right away. Schedule your emails to send at a later day and/or time. Draft it when you have the time and schedule it to send. 
• 💡Automate Grading: Most of your formative assessments can be automatically graded. Set yourself up for success. Build self grading quizzes, and activities so you can easily integrate the students final score from your Learning Management System straight to your gradebook. Let the activities grade themselves.
• 💡Use Templates: Replicate the kinds of templates you like, use these for your daily slides, newsletters, and even handouts. Reusing templates that already work for your class will cut down on your creation time. 

Artificial Intelligence doesn't have to be a scary thing. As an educator, you can use Ai to help reduce your work time on clerical tasks, giving you back time to do other important things.

• Lesson Planning: Type your learning standard, grade level, specific levels of cognition, and let Ai help you plan out custom lessons and activities for your class. 
• Resource Creation: There are so many resources out there. You can ask different Ai programs to help create rubrics, or even help develop activities. Many Ai programs help complete the same kinds of tasks.
• Differentiation/Personalize Learning: Using different Ai tools to help you personalize student learning. When prompting Ai, you can put in topics of interest to personalize student learning, like what games and songs are they in to? You can also prompt Ai to reduce the reading level or increase the reading difficulty to best fit your student needs. 
• Feedback/Email: Use Ai to help you come up with feedback for student work. You can also have it help rewrite your emails to parents. I like to use the prompt.. make this email sound more professional. 
• Creative Assistance: I use the prompt, help me come up with ideas for... a lot. Using Ai and prompting for creative ideas is a great way to save time with tech. Prompt Ai to come up with creative ideas for students stations.

Use stategies and resources that help save you time. Teachers work so hard and have so many things to manage all at once. There are great Ai tools that can help you save time doing some of the things you are already doing. 

You will want to help prioritize work by creating checklists. Sometimes we think we have so much to do, but when you take a moment to write down your tasks in order of priority it helps. Not only can you see the amount of tasks, but you can check them off when you complete them. There is brain science that proves accomplishing tasks, even small ones release endorphins having a positive effect on our neural network.

Batching is a time-management strategy where you group similar tasks together and complete them in dedicated blocks of time to improve efficiency and focus.

What Can Teachers Batch?

1. Lesson Planning: Plan lessons for the week or unit in one sitting.
2. Grading: Grade similar assignments, like quizzes or essays, all at once.
3. Parent Communication: Write and schedule newsletters or email updates in advance.
4. Classroom Prep: Create and print resources (e.g., worksheets, choice boards) for an entire week or month.
5. Digital Assignments: Schedule posts, quizzes, and activities in your LMS like Google Classroom or Canvas.
6. Feedback: Use comment banks or AI tools to provide feedback for multiple students at once.

Batching helps minimize context switching, saving valuable time while maintaining consistency across tasks.
